Abstract: This talk will cover the physical principles behind the winning qubit design -- the transmon -- and its derivatives. I will review the factors that limit the qubit coherence, and the ongoing efforts to mitigate them. We will also explore new ideas for improving state preparation and readout fidelity. Finally, I will touch on the implementation of qubit coupling, as well as the concepts of logical operations and error correction.
