MU Science and Engineering Institute fosters collaborative research
The MU Science and Engineering Institute (MUMSEI) is developing new and improved materials and fostering collaborative research. The institute is co-led by Matt Maschmann, an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, and Carlos Wexler, a professor of physics in the College of Arts and Science.
MUMSEI is a collaboration between the Department of Physics & Astronomy and the College of Engineering in existing and new areas, including biomaterials, energy materials, quantum materials, and materials-at-extremes. By uniting the sciences and engineering at Mizzou, the institute will create new opportunities for joint projects and funding proposals.
Numerous facilities are open and available to both researchers and industry professionals. In addition, affiliated faculty are developing interdisciplinary academic programs such as certificates and graduate degrees in materials science and engineering to prepare students to work and research in these areas. The Department of Physics & Astronomy has several faculty designated as core or affiliated faculty with MUMSEI.
