WIPRO Fellowship

The Wipro Science Education Fellowship is an exciting opportunity to support science teaching through an intensive, district-wide effort. Enhance your leadership through content-focused groups across grade levels! The fellowship is for experienced K-12 math and science teachers and uses a model of teacher support and development to increase the quality of teaching and leadership in science throughout several districts. This model includes a comprehensive set of activities designed to improve teacher practice, focusing on the outcome of increased achievement in science for all students. The last cycle starts in Fall 2024, and applications are due in Spring 2024 (click on “How to Apply” below).

The Fellowship is sponsored by Wipro (www.wipro.com) and based upon the success of the Boston Science Partnership’s Science Education Fellowship, which was supported through the National Science Foundation (2009 – 2012).

Phase 1 Missouri Wipro Science Education Fellowship program followed the methodology of the Boston program. The program targeted mid-Missouri districts and was conducted and managed by a team from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Phase 1 of the program ran from 2018 to 2022, serving three cohorts of teachers.

Phase 2 Missouri Wipro Science Education Fellowship program will run from 2022 to 2026 and will follow a similar methodology. The project will address the challenges of teaching science and math in K-12 grades in a complementary manner. Three cohorts of 15 math and science teachers will be recruited in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

In this final recruitment for Phase 2, we offer the following two-year and one-year programs:

  • Two-year program for K-5 and 6-12 math and science teachers, 2024-26
  • One-year program for K-5 teachers, 2024-25

Program activities will begin in the fall of 2024.

Program Goals

  • To create and support a corps of teachers and leaders
  • To institute a culture of active and reflective instruction
  • To improve teacher quality through vertical alignment within content and horizontal alignment within grade bands, meeting in small groups, and professional development to increase student achievement

Eligibility

The Missouri SEF project is targeted to math and science teachers in Mid Missouri K-12 districts in Boone, Cole, and adjacent counties.

To be part of the Wipro Science Educational Fellowship program, teachers must apply in teams. Each team should:

  • Be from the same school or district in a given cohort (Cohort 5, K-5 one-year option, or Cohort 6, K-12 two-year option)
  • Be from the same grade band (K-5, middle or high school)
  • Consist of 2-4 teachers with at least one math and one science teacher. K-5 teams should designate "math" or "science" teachers for the duration of the project.

Additional Requirements:

  • All K-12 teachers must have taught science or math for at least two years by the end of the current school year and have been employed by their current district for at least two years.
  • Teachers must hold a valid license to teach a math or science subject or to teach K-5.
  • Teachers must have the support of their school administrator to apply due to the extra commitments they will have during the school year. Furthermore, teachers who become fellows are committing to remain in the classroom, in the participating district, for the entire term of their Fellowship.
  • Wipro SEF is an intensive program that will require an average of 72 hours of your time over each year of the fellowship. Applicants should carefully consider their other teaching and professional obligations before applying.

Teachers who participated in Phase I of the Wipro SEF program (2018-2022) are welcome to apply.

Compensation

K-12 fellows in the two-year program will receive a total of $4000.00 in stipends. K-5 fellows in the one-year program will receive $2000.00. Stipends will be paid in installments over the year(s) of the fellowship, as project obligations are met.
